The Lansdowne Women made history on Sunday in their first ever competitive home fixture in the Leinster League Women's Division 6.. Not only did they take on St. Mary's / Guinness but they battled the elements in the guise of Storm Ashley which made standing, not only playing, extremely difficult.
Lansdowne had the wind to their backs for the first half and made gains with 2 well worked tries, the first scored by No.1 Eline Brandt from a superb offload by Laura Shannon following a great carry and tackle from the Mary's defense. Again, following a great run of action Eline was given the ball and scored in the corner to make it number 2. This one converted by Jennie Ryan.
A third try came in the 2nd half, however playing into a 100km breeze in the second half proved a bridge too far for the ladies and despite some fierce defending and a couple of lost players, Marys/Guinness edged ahead to win 29-19
